Buster B. Brown was one heck of a dog.  In fact, he was extraordinary.  He was the best four-legged friend that author Valerie J. Wood and her husband ever had.  A brindle Boxer mix, he was funny and sharp.  He loved to run and play.  He loved cats and trucks, especially the UPS truck.  When he was diagnosed with bone cancer, he was not a puppy.  To the contrary, at ten he was long in the tooth, but it did not make the diagnosis any easier to accept.

Deeply moving, Breakfasts with Buster: Helping Buster Battle Bone Cancer is the very special story of how Valerie and her husband helped their beloved Buster battle his disease.  It is an unforgettable tale of triumph and acceptance - part memoir, part animal cancer treatment guide.

Valerie did her homework and with the help of her veterinarian was able to make dietary changes in conjunction with alternative therapies, like acupuncture, to prolong Buster's life.  She introduced a diet of flax seed, cottage cheese and sardines.  She fed him fish and salmon oil supplements.  While most dogs diagnosed with bone cancer lose their battle within two months, by following the path of the holistic diet and alternative medicine, Valerie was able to prolong her dog's life exponentially.  This memoir shares that journey, a journey that every pet owner fears, but one which thousands of people face each year.

Buster died with dignity.  With resourceful treatment, though, Wood had been blessed with nearly an additional year of breakfasts with her big brown boy.  Until the heartbreaking end, Valerie was able to provide him a better quality of life than any vet had imagined.  In four insightful, tender and moving chapters, Wood shares the treatment protocols, provides insights about general health and nutrition, and provides an incredible resource for cancers specific to animals.  As Buster battled his cancer, he also taught his own lessons, ones that are immeasurably sweet and absolutely unforgettable.
