Laurie Hawkins, President of Hawkins + Company, has over 20 years experience in the development and management of strategic business operations, including marketing, public relations and business development. An attorney, she has managed both local and multi-state communications and public affairs programs for corporations, labor unions, government, non-profit entities and individuals. She has extensive experience in working with diverse constituencies and interest groups and the media, representing varied interests. She specializes in organizational development, taking entities from concept to operations.
She was the President of the Tug McGraw Foundation, the nonprofit group she co-founded with former Major League Baseball relief pitcher Tug McGraw in July, 2003 while he was undergoing treatment for brain cancer. She led the building of the organization to full operational status. She also served as a business manager and counsel for McGraw and his sports marketing firm, guiding marketing of special projects, managing legal aspects of licensing and personal service contracts and serving as the literary agent for his 2003 autobiography, "Ya Gotta Believe."
Laurie founded Collage Communications in 1991 and ran the public affairs and communications firm until 1999, when she joined the American Heart Association as Regional Director of Communications. Collage was the Publisher of the monthly newspaper, "Play Too! News," covering girls' and women's competitive sports in the Delaware Valley. During that time she founded the Women's Business Coalition, an association of women business owners with a focus on developing and securing passage of state legislation and regulations that would support increased business opportunities.
Sports and dance have been a major part of her life. At an early age she began swimming competitively and many years - and laps in the pool - later she retired. During her corporate days she participated in Team Triathalons as a distance swimmer. Field hockey, and her awesome ninth grade team, holds fond memories of early athletic times! In addition, she studied classical ballet for more than 15 years.
Involvement in community is paramount. Among other activities she was counsel for the Abington Raiders Pop Warner Football organization, participated annually in the Hugh O'Brian Youth Ambassador Program (HOBY) and served for two years as the Volunteer Coach for the Komen for the Cure's Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. She has also worked in over 25 major political campaigns, including serving as Campaign Manager for city and state campaigns.
Hawkins has a J.D. from the Beasley School of Law at Temple University in Philadelphia, as well as a Political Science degree from the same school.
