St. Louis Rams Fullback Brian Leonard opened his successful inaugural football camp at The College of New Jersey on July 16, 2008, welcoming participants from around New Jersey to the four-day camp. The young future stars ranged in age from 11 to 16 and included some of the state's high school best. One camper came from Maryland to have the chance to work out with the Rams starter.
Brian Leonard's outstanding career at Rutgers University was preceded by years of Pop Warner and high school football. It was on those fields that Brian learned the skills that would see him become an All-American selection at Rutgers and set many of the school's records, as well as receive prestigious awards for sportsmanship and leadership ability. It was on those fields that Brian learned the value of strong fundamental skills training from experienced coaches and is why he was in camp every day to provide hands-on instruction.
Brian called on former Rutgers teammates, also NFL players, to come to camp as guest instructors. Joining Brian were Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Lineman Jeremy Zuttah and former Jets Cornerback and now free agent Manny Collins. Each of the players spent time with the participants to talk about their own positions and how to play them more effectively.
The camp received media attention; read the Trenton Times story here and listen to Brian with Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Show at 610 WIP radio below.
The Brian Leonard Football Camp will be held again in 2009, with dates and other details still to be set. The football camp is one of the sports camps presented by Elite Camp Services of Toms River, New Jersey - a client of Hawkins + Company - and information about the 2009 camp is available by email at info@leonardcamps.com.
