NFL Running Back Elgin Davis to Host Special Event
to Create Scholarship
Davis and Friends from Class of 1983 to Host Scholarship Cruise aboard SunCruz Casino, Jacksonville
ORLANDO, FL - (August 7) - Elgin Davis, 1983 graduate of Ribault High School in Jacksonville and former New England Patriots running back, will be hosting a special event to raise funds and create a scholarship at his alma mater.
On Saturday, August 29, 2009, the Elgin Davis Scholarship Cruise will be held on the SunCruz Casino in Jacksonville. Davis will host the event that is open to the public. Tickets are priced at $25.00 and a portion of the proceeds will be used to create a scholarship for a graduating Ribault student.
Davis has dedicated his post-NFL career to serving the community. After graduating from Ribault High School, Davis went on to become a standout on the football field at the University of Central Florida. As he details in his memoirs, Why Did It Happen To Me, he was offered a scholarship to the university that gave him a chance at higher education.
“Without the scholarship from UCF, I would not have had the financial ability to attend college,” said Davis. “I know there are many deserving students who will benefit from furthering their education at the college level and I want the scholarship we create to help them get there.”
Davis will also be hosting a book signing on the cruise, with copies of his memoirs available. Why Did It Happen To Me is Elgin’s story, from his youth in Jacksonville through his times at Ribault and the University of Central Florida, and detailing his playing days with the New England Patriots.
