Russ Cohen is a sports journalist, internet entrepreneur, radio show host and commentator and an authority on the sports collectible world.
His fascination with sports began at an early age, due to a childhood orthopedic condition that rendered him unable to walk until almost age five. As a child he was told that he could never play sports, even after he was the youngest patient ever to have the surgical procedure that gave him mobility. His interest in athletics was fueled by his inability to play and he devoured information on every sport shown on television or written about in magazines and newspapers. He became an expert on game rules, teams, players and their statistics.
His statistical knowledge has made his transition into a career in sports a natural one. He is co-owner, writer and radio host for Sportsology.net a series of multimedia websites that cover all of the major professional sports.
He is the host of the internet radio shows Hockey Hour and Card Corner. For several years he has been a regular guest expert on a local AM radio sports show, and he is frequently invited to contribute his expertise for multiple XM satellite radio shows, including XM Hockey Hour and XM Prospect Radio. He often takes his radio show on the road and has done live shows at such events as MLB Fanfest, the NFL Experience, NHL All-Star game and NHL Entry Draft.
He is a member of the Professional Hockey Writers Association, and has had numerous articles published on NHL.com and other professional team websites as well as Slam and FoxSports.com. His writing has appeared in Canadian Sports; The Magazine, Goalie News, New England Hockey Journal, and The Hockey News, and he writes a monthly column for Center Ice. His columns have been syndicated in newspapers across the country including Metro and the Bucks County Courier Times.
Russ is the co-author of the book 100 Ranger Greats, published by Wiley & Sons Canada in 2009 and is working on a second book about the New York Rangers. He has also authored a book about baseball.
He is an avid animal lover and shares his home with rescued dogs and cats. He is a volunteer for a retired racing greyhound rescue group and is a member of the American Humane Association’s Red Star Rescue Team, a national team that goes to disaster sites to rescue and care for lost, injured and displaced pets. Russ is also a certified Search and Rescue technician able to join in searches for those lost or injured while in the woods.
